Rand Paul Manager Surprisingly Blunt About Coal

So David Adams and I are friends on Facebook. We've shared some discussions about politics -- we actually agree on a few things, albeit only a few. So, when Adams, who is Rand Paul's campaign manager, posted about Paul's stance on coal, I decided to ask a question. Check out his answer:

OK, it's not that big a deal -- and at least it's honest. But I wanted to answer -- Really? Paul knows how bad coal is for the environment, and for the communities where it's mined, and he's still supporting it? He knows about mountain-top removal, and he's still bragging about being a coal supporter? He thinks that a simple statement of "I support coal" is going to win him votes?

The coal question in Kentucky is more complicated than either side seems able to manage. Unfortunately, Paul doesn't strike me as having much use for nuance. If there can be such a thing, Paul strikes me as a Libertarian Tea-Bagger. And if I'm looking for someone to vote for, that sort of simple-minded approach to issues like Kentucky coal just leaves me cold. (On either side of the aisle, by the way.)

So, David, thanks for the honesty in your answer. I appreciate it. Wish I could say I appreciate the position as well -- but I don't.
