I Think I'll Run for Governor
I've never held elective office (not counting student senate in college), but I could do better than this. Who presents a budget that includes an unapproved revenue stream? That's just irresponsible. It's playing at governing, farting around with the future.
Here's a truism that this governor apparently hasn't learned:
A goal without a plan is just a wish.
We need revenue reform, desperately. We need leadership on a number of fronts. We need jobs, we need education, we need effective government. You don't get these things by playing games with elections, or by throwing Play-Doh against the wall and hoping it sticks.
You get them by working with the Legislator, not around it or against it. You get them by galvanizing your base and either co-opting or beating the opposition. You get them by telling the truth, not fudging numbers. And you get them by hard, hard work.
It's time for effective government in Frankfort. It's time for a state government that is focused on the future and not the past. A state government that respects the remaining coal industry without kissing its ass every time it can. A state government that makes the hard choices, and helps its citizens make the hard choices as well.
As Tim Longmeyer once told me, to win an election you need a name, a story, or lots of money. I don't have any of the three ... but I swear, if someone doesn't step up to lead this state and not just play at being governor, I'm going to file and run. I surely couldn't do any worse.

No comments on my offer? I'm shocked -- SHOCKED -- that a grateful public has not surged forward in relief at the news. :-)
