C-J Blows It on Lady Cards Coverage

I'm not your typical C-J basher. In fact, one of the first things we did when moving to The Ville in '92 was to subscribe, and I've been a loyal, cover-to-cover reader ever since.

So, when I gripe, it's not the everyday whining you read elsewhere. And I'm griping about this -- the C-J blew it on the Lady Cards coverage. In fact, I thought they blew it so thoroughly that I wrote them a letter about it. Make the jump to see some of it --

After explaining that I'm normally a big fan of theirs, I told them that I thought they blew the story on the Lady Cards making the Final Four. The letter continues:

"The team we didn't expect to make it past the Sweet 16 upsets the #1 seed in their regional to make their first-ever Final Four, led by our first-ever First Team All-American, and what is the gigantic lead story the next morning? A POSSIBLE end to the UK coaching search. Not even a signed contract -- just the possibility of one.

Sorry, guys -- you buried the lead.

I'll not belabor the point. I'll just point out that Angel's comment to the ESPN reporter before the game -- "No one respects us, no one believes in us" -- seems to apply to her hometown newspaper as well.

Beating Baylor was an upset. Beating Maryland, and doing it so thoroughly, was an even bigger upset. If the Lady Cards manage to beat Oklahoma and the Paris sisters, it will be a "shock the world" upset. Please, if that happens, give it the front-page coverage it deserves."

Too late to change the past, I know. But perhaps they will realize that the Lady Cards deserve more than they gave them this time, and it will improve the coverage in the future.

And if the Lady Cards do figure out a way to beat Oklahoma -- more on that later in the week -- I hope the C-J covers it like the major sports story it will be. It would be a shame if ESPN and SI gave it more space than the home town paper did.

Totally agree...when my friend & I were watching the Cards "play" Michigan State the other day, we were talking about how great the Lady Cards are doing & the severe lack of media coverage. We're both frustrated over that.
